This batch is made with pinyon pine from the High Desert wilderness. The sap was incredibly clean, fresh and vibrant which created a finished product that can work as both a cream and a salve. The scent is piney with clean floral undertones and slightly smoky. We absolutely love this product for inflammation, relieving congestion, minor aches and pains, as a moisturizing cream, and a face primer.
The pinyon pine sap that we use has been ethically sourced. It was foraged from the ground and not taken directly from the trees. We heat up and purify the pine sap, infuse it with organic jojoba oil and then lightly whip it with our tallow. It has the silky consistency of a creamy balm and a matte finish on the skin. A little goes a long way. The colder the jar, the harder the product. Any time your jar gets too warm the tallow will become soft. You can use as-is or place the jar in a cool, dark place (or fridge) and it will harden.
PINYON PINE RESIN: Pine resin (or pitch) has been used in medicine for more than 2000 years to treat a range of skin conditions because of its soothing and antiseptic properties. The oleoresin from pine can soothe irritation and inflammation, stimulate circulation, and help quicken the body’s healing process. It can help sooth sore muscles or break up congestion in the chest. Because of it’s antifungal and antibacterial properties, it acts as a barrier to prevent infection from setting in, making pine resin balm a great choice for applying to minor wounds, scrapes, and grazes. When you blend pinyon pine resin with tallow and jojoba oil, it can help nourish and soothe the skin.
SCENT: Our No. 2 Pine Balm is very fragrant. The scent is woodsy, crisp, fresh, and slightly sweet. Opening a jar of our Pine Balm is like walking through a Christmas tree lot on the first day of December.
